Central Mersey DESP x Diabetes UK

Diabetes Awareness Week (8–14 June, 2026) is an important opportunity to raise awareness, encourage early detection, and support healthier lifestyle choices for the community members.

As part of this year’s programme, we are delivering accessible and interactive presentations for people with learning disabilities, with the support from Vanessa Laber, Engaging Communities Officer, North of England, Diabetes UK.

✅ 4 June 2026: A 30‑minute session was successfully delivered at the Knowsley Learning Disability Partnership Board at The Old School House, Huyton, reaching around 60 participants, including staff and members of various organisations serving adults with learning disabilities, representatives from Knowsley Council. The session was well received and generated a high level of engagement, with many questions raised about diabetes.

✅ 9 June 2026: We delivered a presentation to around 20 members of Warrington Speak Up. The session used easy‑read materials and clear visuals to explain what diabetes is, key risk factors, signs and symptoms, and practical ways to reduce risk through healthy eating, physical activity, and regular health checks.
